Application:

EMImI reacts with aluminum chloride to form 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium halogenoaluminate ionic liquid, [emim]I-(AlCl₃)_x, which is an excellent solvent for Friedel-Crafts acylation of ferrocene.
